Emerging Antioxidants: Astaxanthin and Bilberry
The 2026 nutritional landscape has expanded to include high-potency antioxidants like Astaxanthin and Anthocyanins (often derived from Bilberry extract). Unlike standard vitamins, Astaxanthin is unique because it can cross the blood-retinal barrier, delivering antioxidant protection directly to the ocular tissues.
These compounds are primarily used to combat Ciliary Muscle Fatigue. When we stare at close-up screens, the ciliary muscles in the eye remain in a state of constant tension. Astaxanthin has been shown to support the blood flow to these muscles and improve their ability to focus (accommodation). This makes it a key ingredient for younger populations who experience "computer vision syndrome" but do not yet have age-related disorders.
