Open Ecosystems and Interoperability Standards

A defining characteristic of the China Dental CAD/CAM market in 2026 is the move toward Open Ecosystems. Unlike older, closed systems that forced dentists to use specific scanners with specific mills, Chinese manufacturers have championed the "Open STL" and "Standardized API" movements.

This interoperability allows clinics to mix and match hardware—for example, using a high-end scanner from one Shenzhen-based firm with a heavy-duty 5-axis mill from a factory in Foshan. This competitive "Open" approach has driven down costs across the region and encouraged a rapid cycle of hardware upgrades, as clinics are no longer "locked in" to a single vendor's ecosystem.
